What is a Death Doula?
A Death Doula, or End-of-Life Doula, comes from the Greek for 'helper' or 'servant', so we help empower, educate, and encourage people and their loved ones to involved in making challenging Death related decisions, preferably before the moment arises. We do this by supporting, guiding, and holding space so best choices can be made by all involved.
What is a Death Positive Doula?
Well, I am and this means that I do not shy away for those challenging topics about Death and dying. Talking about dying a good death is not morbid, nor should discussions about the many choices and options that we have in Canada be taboo.
In fact, I encourage everyone to have honest, healthy conversations as early as possible, in ways and means that are age appropriate. And if you find this topic troubling, or overwhelming I can help. As a certified Death Doula I have resources and training to facilitate discussions, explore options and the many possibilities available (and there are new ones regularly occurring. Have you heard of human composting?). Contact me to discuss further or ask questions
